Saying Goodbye to President George W. Bush…a matter of respect

As stated in another post, my father was a democrat from birth.  I do not know if he voted for George W. Bush, but I know he respected him.  Why?  How?  This is a guy that made many people furious and full of hate.  W. made the media spew out hatred and utter contempt… even to the point of them calling him stupid.  Shoot… everyone skipped out his return to Texas except Fox News. Congressmen (and women- Pelosi) would call him a dictator, terrorist, moron, stupid, and even worse.  I am a lover of history and have never seen such utter disrespect for a President.  I was young during the time of Bill Clinton, but I do not remember the hatred for him being this vile after the whole Monica thing.

So how could my dad respect this man, George W. Bush?  My dad and I were talking about this back in August and he said, ” Son, you know, I have not agreed with this man on everything.  But I have to give this man credit.  He lived by his convictions.  I have lived through many Presidents coming and going and have never witnessed one that stuck to their convictions like this guy.  Yes, he did some things that I thought was stupid but man I can count on what he says.”

“Son, I guarantee you that every enemy nation takes this guy at his word.  They are scared of him.  That is something that I hope the new President, whoever it is, keeps up.  These terrorist nut jobs do not care about appeasement, they only know fear.  They may hate W. but they respect him.”

Dad just could not understand how so many were incredibly disrespectful.  All former rules of former presidents not talking badly about current presidents was thrown out with Carter running his mouth amuck.  “What has happened to manners and respect today?” my dad would mutter over and over.

With that, let us at least be thankful and respectful for President Bush protecting us from another attack on our soil.  For keeping the terrorist at bay.  How about giving him cuddos for his amazing support to Africa and fighting Aids in unprecedented financial support?  I wonder if the Iraqis would rather have people they elected running their country or be under Saddam’s horrific and deadly rule…duh.   You may say it is just for the oil…and maybe there is validity to it.  But I bet the Iraqis would take their freedom from Saddam however they could have gotten it.

How about the church?  Well, President Bush funded faith-based initiatives and gave them more respect than anyother time in recent history.  Again, I disagreed with him on a ton of stuff and even felt betrayed in some things.

But when it is all said and done, like my daddy said….” I respect the man.”

Your dad is a smart man. A lot of people don’t like Limbaugh but I agree with most of his statements.
